Community Guidelines

Vellicor is a place to talk honestly about books. Disagree about a book as strongly as you like, but treat the people you're talking to with respect. These guidelines apply to everything you post: your name, username and bio, reviews and replies, messages, book clubs, discussion threads and lists. They are part of our Terms of Service.
Not allowed anywhere
- Harassment and threats: targeting, bullying or threatening another person, or encouraging anyone to harm themselves.
- Hate: slurs, or attacks on people for their race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age.
- Sexual content involving minors, in any form. We report it to the authorities.
- Sexual solicitation and unsolicited explicit content.
- Spam and scams: advertising, crypto or giveaway schemes, phishing, or anything asking for passwords, wallets or payment.
- Impersonation of another reader, an author or a public figure.
- Personal information about someone else (addresses, phone numbers, private photos) shared without their permission.
- Anything illegal, including pirated copies of books.
Names are held to a higher standard
Display names, usernames, club names and list titles appear everywhere, including to readers who never chose to see them. They can't contain profanity, sexual terms or slurs. In reviews, replies and conversations you're free to use strong language about a book; just never at a person.
Be kind about spoilers
Mark club discussion threads that contain spoilers, and keep big reveals out of the opening lines of a review.
How we enforce these guidelines
- Automatic filtering: text is checked against a list of prohibited terms when you post it. If something is blocked, you'll see a message asking you to edit it.
- Reporting: every review and profile has a Report option. Reports are read by a person.
- Automatic hiding: content reported by three different people is hidden while we review it.
- Blocking: block anyone from their profile. You won't see each other's activity, and they can't message you.
- Action on accounts: we remove content that breaks these guidelines and may suspend or delete accounts, without warning for serious or repeated violations. We have zero tolerance for abuse.
